Happy Birthday Dad!
Today is my dad’s birthday, so Happy Birthday Dad, not that you know this page exists but its the thought the counts. Me and dad went up to see my grand parents (my dad’s parents) which is about an hours drive from here. When I got there I got a text message from one of my friends at University asking when I was going to turn up to do this presentation which is part of an assignment, woops.
I’m sure that alot of you know about Aardvark Topsites PHP or iTopsites well I help Jeremy the creator and owner of both where I can and today after I got home I started tweeking the database to improve the indexes to help speed up the queries. I stupidly decided to delete an INDEX KEY on a very important table. To give you an idea, that table is cleared (everything inside it deleted) every day at midnight GMT and in 12 hours gets around 7 or 8 million records inserted into it and is constently queries and updated. After the INDEX KEYS was dropped, the server load when sky high, everything ran slow for about 30 seconds then it crashed. After about 3 quaters of an hour me and Jeremy had just about got the server working again by adding the new INDEX KEY on the table and everything was back to normal, so much weight lifted from my sholders then, I was shitting myself, I have the skid marks to prove it.
Finally, just I was about to post my rant about my day I looked at the blog articles that someone running WordPress thinks someone might be interested in on the WordPress Dashboard in the Admin CP. I saw this one Dougal Campbell: Six Rules for Driving, I related strait to it, although I would hope that here slow cars kept left (although I have made the occational exception by going left myself to get past the ass hole sat in the 3rd lane on the motor way doing exactly 70 when I was doing … eerr, more). It made me laugh and sudenly my day didn’t seem so bad after all. Thanks Dougal!
