Legalization for ripping CD
The British Phonographic Industry has proposed plans that would allow consumers to legally rip CDs that they own for use on a personal media play like an iPod. UK copyright law has not been changed much in a long time and it is still technically illegal for consumers to copy CDs.
With the advent of PMPs like the iPod Video and PSP the video industry could see a revolution in the way videos are played like what MP3 players have done and continue doing to the music industry. This could mean that the ripping of movies could become legal to rip movies from DVD to be used on a PMP. If this actually happened it would make most of the HD-DVD and Blu-Ray format redundant because most of the protocols related to them are about copyright protection.
