It is now legal to copy Music Disks to a Computer

Monday, June 12th, 2006

If you have read a previous article about the British Phonographic Industry they were planning to make it legal to rip music CD to a computer for use on a MP3 Player as long as the files are not distrobuted to other users. People will now only be brought up on charges if they share the songs.

What to do with the spare?

After upgrading my old PC and fixing my Mum’s with the some of the redundant parts I now have everything I need to make another (all I really need is a CD/DVD reader but it is not essential). The only problem with the machine is that the on-board graphics card does not work correctly but that is not really a problem. The processor is only a AMD Athlon 1.3Ghz but it is enough to install Fedora Core (a distribution of Linux) and use it as a test server for some of my sites and a general file server. It may even become the router for my home network depending if I can get hold of enough NICs. I will keep you updated!

Sorry I have not Posted

Sorry I have not posted in the last two weeks, I have been kind of lazy. I built my new PC last Friday afternoon. It seems to be working perfectly and has been on almost constantly since I first turned it on other than the obvious reboots after installing updates, software and tweeking of settings. I am very impressed at the speed it take the computer to shutdown and start back up again, I have not actually timed it yet but I think I should now that I have thought about it. On another topic, I was given an unconditional place in another course at University, BSc Computer Studies, which I have accepted. I still have to go into my old school and sort out my release (makes it sound like prison doesn’t it).
