What if?

Tuesday, February 6th, 2007

I know Honda promotes “What if?” as being a good thing, and yes in most cases it is a good thing but I am currently wrestling with the bad side at the moment. I finally pluck up the courage to do something that I really want to do but when I get to the point of doing it my courage goes on holiday, doubt sets in and I run for the hills. This is then usually followed with me being really frustrated at myself. If you have been in my position you will probably know what I am talking about, I hope I can bring myself to do it before it is to late… unless it is already…

Quitting Final Fantasy XI

Monday, February 5th, 2007

I have not had as much fun on Final Fantasy XI recently and as a result on Saturday night at about 7 o’clock I logged off and have not been on since. The strange thing is although I have thought about the game I have not really been tempted to play it. For example all yesterday I was happily messing around on my PC and I must have opened the start menu 10 to 20 times an hour where the shortcut to start FFXI has been pinned but at no point did I really want to click on it. I had always though that gaming was like an addiction and an online role play game was the worst because of the social aspect of it. Strangely I have had no contact with anyone on the game at all (with the exception of Woody who is on a different server but I knew him before as the webmaster of FF Ultima).

New Web Hosting

Sunday, February 4th, 2007

If you are reading this post, welcome to the new web host! My previous hosting was on the iTopsites server which has been having some difficulties which has resulted in the service being moved to a new server that is not run by Jeremy (the founder of iTopsites). I am now hosted by Servage.net which hosts websites on a cluster based server which are notorious for fault tolerance (a cluster server is a number of computers working together as if they were one and if one computer stops working for some reason the other computers will take on its work load, many of the worlds super computers are cluster servers).

Evaluation

The circuit counts down from 9 to 0 perfectly on the third attempt at creating the circuit. Pervious attempts had failed because of errors in the working out stages leading to incorrect equations. Once the circuit was completed all the gates have been labelled from E to X (the bit generators are labelled from A to D).

Nothing going on

Wednesday, December 20th, 2006

I know I have not posted anything in over a month but I really have not have much to post about, although I do have another piece of coursework I could post might I might do eventually. All I have really been doing is playing Final Fantasy XI (I know I am addicited to it but I do not care) Andromida is White Mage 70 now and I need to fight Maat to remove the Level Block to get to level 75. I have gone against Maat 2 times now and lost both of them. The first one I ran out of time and the second I just died. I have been reading more on a couple of websites and taking some advice from friends. Today and probably most of tomorrow will be take up with getting my evation skill capped which will help alot (I do not know why I did not do it before) I have already died once doing this but it will be worth it in the end. I will probably fight Maat again on Saturday, maybe Sunday depending on how I feel. If I loose again I am going to level Paladin or Red Mage, I am currently leaning towards Paladin but we will see. If all goes well however I am on track to getting a level 75 job by January 1st.

Which next generation console?

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006

Although I do not really write about it here on my blog, I do like to keep up to date with what games and consoles are about to be released. I think it is now time to place my verdict on what you should get even if you could buy all three consoles Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii.

Xbox 360

The Xbox 360 has been out a year already and is an excellent little machine and has impressive graphics to say the least but the technology but it is the first console out so it is hard to give an accurate comparison. Although I have to point out the technology that it is comprised of is a year old and with the PlayStation 3 not coming out until April next year it will probably suck but I have to congratulate Microsoft for having the HD-DVD player as an optional extra that can be bought IF you want it at a later date. I am sure that in the not to distant future it will be integrated into machine instead of as a separate drive.

PlayStation 3

I am worried about the PlayStation 3 from the offset because Sony only started to make it because they wanted it as a sales tool for their new technology Blu-Ray and not because the PlayStation 2 was out of date the PlayStation 2 has still not had its full potential fully unlocked. If you play the game Black and compare it to any game you have played before you will see how much can still be archive if game developers wanted too. The release date has been knocked back now about 3 times and it is all thanks to the Blu-Ray disk reader. However, the specification of the machine is phenomenal, it has 8 processors running at more than 4Ghz. If nothing else this would make an excellent Linux computer (which I believe is already available in the US).

Wii

This one has given a lot of people a laugh because Nintendo is giving Sony and Microsoft the finger the specification of the Wii is a light weight compared to the other two machines. It does not even have High-Definition support. However, the Wii has an ace up it’s sleeve the controller has 100s of sensors built into it which allows it to detect your movement so instead of pressing buttons you move the controller instead. The adverts have shown many uses of it from a sward to baton to control an orchestra.

My Verdict

I have not gone into very much detail about any of the consoles but I have given you a quick overview of them. I have to admit I am being biased against Microsoft just because it is Microsoft and have ruled the Xbox 360 for anything more than installing Linux Free60 on. The PlayStation 3 I know will be good but I am worried that it is to expensive at least to begin with so if Sony manage survive the amount of money they have lost on it and other project that have gone wrong I will be getting one sooner or later (probably much, much later). The underdog has won my heart on this one, Nintendo have not gone for incredible realism or fantastic graphics they have looked what scares people away from using games consoles and set about trying to make it easier and less scary. In doing so they have come up with something completely revolutionary (why did they change the name of the console?) and the Wii is the console I will be buying after Christmas, if I have any money left over that is.

WebDev

Wednesday, October 11th, 2006

I am currently doing a lab for Website Development, “How to create frames in Microsoft FrontPage” followed by “How to create navigation in Microsoft FrontPage”. Like last week I will just watch other people stuggling and point and laugh at the lecturer. University has Microsoft FrontPage 2003 which I really do not like, even the latest version can not make valid HTML and does not support XHTML at all. Once again I will just play around with Notepad, I wonder if there is a Notepad++ Portable avalable?

First real week in Uni

Thursday, September 28th, 2006

This is actually my second week in university but this is the first week that any work has actually been done, even though its not much. So far we have learned how to create web pages in Microsoft FrontPage (I decided I would rather use NotePad again) and we have learned how to convert Decimal into Binary and back again. Easy considering I already knew how to do both.

My Hero in Hospital

Wednesday, September 20th, 2006

Today Richard Hammand, a presenter from my favourite television program Top Gear, is in a critical condition in hospital after crashing in a jet-powered car while filming for the program at Elvington Airfield.

I hope Richard gets well soon and my prays go out to him and his family.
